“Hello- I am Aleah and I am a survivor of high voltage electric shock which led to temporary paralysis and now partial paraplegia. My entire neuromuscular system is damaged and starting completely over. I live with daily challenges of physical pain and mental suffering. Being wheelchair bound has been a constant challenge and I had little support understanding everything I am going through. I have my husband who is my amazing caregiver and a few friends but none of them can really understand what I am going through. A mutual friend heard my story and wanted to make the connection between me and Danielle who also suffers with mobility and the challenges that comes with it. She messaged me with support and encouragement to keep my head up and there will be better days ahead. She also offered me an opportunity to use her extra electric wheelchair. At first I was not interested bc the thought “I’m not going to be in this wheelchair for much longer” kept popping in my head. She told me that she understood and that it was available to me whenever I need it. I thought long and hard about it and accepted her selfless offer. Before this incident, i was always outside..hiking down trails in the woods, running after my kids on their bikes, enjoying the days kayaking the springs or finding swimming holes. I never thought my life’s endeavors would be so limited until this incident. The electric wheelchair that the Shared Light Project (YANA) has donated to me has gifted me the ability to go outside with my family again. I am not only blessed for the chair but also for the love and support. Danielle has brought me tinctures, oils and teas with love, advice and hugs. It was comforting to hear that I am not alone in my recovery journey. That I am seen, heard and understood with love and patience. I am forever thankful.” – Aleah
